Guarantee

Most of our doors carry long term guarantee periods for at least ten years, with many being guaranteed for 15 years, 25 years and even longer, against any manufacturing defects. An exception is the glass units, handles and other hardware, which carry a guaranteed for 5 years. To claim the guarantee, you must be the original purchaser and you will need proof of the date of purchase. The guarantee can be claimed only once the terms of conditions are satisfied with regards installation, care and maintenance, which are clearly outlined in the instruction manuals. Replacement of faulty parts is covered under this guarantee, any incidental expenses are not covered.

Correct Storage of Product

Once you have inspected and received the doors in expected condition, before fitting, you must store the doors in the best possible manner to avoid any damage. Always store doors flat upon a flat surface and clear of the floor on minimum three level bearers. The bearers should be longer than the doors and preferably in the room where you plan to hang them. Ensure the area is cool and dry.

Avoid storing the doors in the rooms when fresh plaster has been applied on the walls. Avoid subjecting to sudden central heating or other direct heat sources. Do not store or fit a door in rooms until plastering or wet floors and similar jobs are complete and dried out. Moisture can seep through wet plaster; cement, render or flooring, and may cause the door to swell, and interfere with smooth movement of the doors, or damage veneers, joints, or spread mould.

Finish Guarantee

Our clear / tinted lacquered doors carry atleast 2 year guarantees. As a leading supplier offering products with high quality finishing, some of our products also come with a separate finish guarantee.

Internal Door Finishing Requirements

Once you remove the Products from the packaging, you must decorate it straight away. Make sure it doesn’t encounter moisture or moist environments. All pre-finished doors come ready to hang. If you trim a door edge/ hinge cut out etc, you will need re-finishing, using quality oils such as Osmo PolyX Oil, or Treatex Wax Oil. Do not use Danish Oil.

Internal Engineered oak timber doors can be painted, stained, varnished or waxed with oil. We suggest Osmo PolyX Oil, or Treatex Wax Oil of a well-known brand. Stay away from use of Danish Oil under any circumstances on these doors.

You may finish White primed timber doors with good quality timber paint. Our team will be happy to offer recommendations. Ensure you finish the door immediately after hanging in a moisture-free environment.

Prefinished External doors

Most of our Pre-finished Exterior doors come with finish guarantees. Such guarantees are subject to proper maintenance under manufacturer instructions, with periodic re-coats as needed. The product must be kept free of moisture during the life of the product. Don’t forget to perform checks on the finish every six months and discover any deterioration, so it can then be re-coated. Recoats ensure that the decorative finish is maintained and the timber and frames remain free of moisture during the life of the product, ensuring durability. Finish guarantees are offered in accordance with EN927/1-7. Any coating breakdown or moisture ingress into the door will make your guarantee invalid.

Treating/Finishing External Doors(Unfinished)

All our unfinished doors / doorsets are covered with standard guarantees. However, any decoration or finishing must occur before exposing the door to external situations. This will stop any moisture in the outside air becoming trapped under the coating. We strongly recommend that you finish your unfinished exterior door sets with a microporous wood coating system. This system involves one base coat and two topcoats, with appropriate wood stain or paint. After delivery, doors and door sets are be stored kept dry by appropriate storage in a dry area, laying doors and frames flat, slightly raised from the ground to keep air circulating properly. Ensure you decorate immediately after delivery to keep away any moisture imbalances.

Protect the timber and prevent any moisture ingress into the door, including any cut outs for locks and hinges, by coating all surfaces, edges and frames with these three coats.

Maintaining the finish in such a way will prevent moisture ingress into the timber during the product lifetime. Working on treating/sealing all surfaces at the same time will prevent distortion from moisture imbalance. If the coating breakdowns or moisture penetrates into the door, your guarantee becomes invalid.

Important: Unfinished doors and frames must be decorated in compliance with British Standard Code of Practice BS 6150:1991 Painting of Buildings, and BS 8000 Part 12 1989 – prior to installation. Non-compliance will void the guarantee. Do not finish using Danish oil, wax or any finish except an appropriate medium to high build microporous wood finishing system. Products such as Sikkens and Sadolin are highly recommended and can be purchased easily from most retailers. Do not under any circumstance, use steel wool on untreated oak timber or veneers as it may cause oxidisation resulting in black stain. Also, keeps any iron fragment away from the doors. Buildworld accepts no responsibility for incorrectly decorated products or finished doors, or for any defects resulting from such actions.
