We have only one planet and everyone must participate in conservation efforts. We know we can make a difference, as every little bit helps to reduce or remove the harm caused to the planet, and every little change can make a big difference. Buildworld are committed to become part of this. That’s why we work with manufacturers that employ sustainable practices in sourcing and manufacturing of products. All our doors and windows are FSC® Certified.
The FSC or Forest Stewardship Council® is an international non-profit organisation that defines the Standards that are essential for sustainable forestry practice. Forests are given the FSC Certification when they prove that they comply with the set of environmental, social and economic criteria. Products of such sustainably managed forests carry the certification mark for clear identification so they can become preferred over other wood and timber products.
The FSC label shows a green tree with a tick on it. You will find this label on a variety of forest produce from wood and wood products to paper. You may also notice a variation across our website and on certain products, as shown.
The FSC label is the first thing you may want to check when buying a wood or wood based product. It allows you to make that purchase in a guilt-free manner, resting in the knowledge that the product comes from a sustainable forest with green practices. In simple words, that forest is managed with minimal damage to the environment, people and economy of the region.
The FSC label is a good way to choose products that are made from sustainable materials. By purchasing products with the FSC label, you’re helping to protect the world's forests and the people who depend on them.
Yes, FSC certifications are of 3 levels:
When the wood or forest produce used in the making of a product comes from FSC certified forests, then it is marked FSC 100%.
FSC Mix indicates that at least 70% of forest materials used in a product is from a mix of FSC certified forests, recycled materials and controlled wood. Controlled wood is not FSC certified wood, but comes from forests that must meet a given set of rules as outlined by the FSC.
FSC Recycled means the product is made from 100% recycled materials. Of this, at least 70% must be post-consumer reclaimed and 30% may be pre-consumer reclaimed, such as offcut waste, manufacturing excess or defective waste.
Buildworld stocks products from leading brands which carry the FSC certification with detailed FSC information available when requested.
